HONEY HUNTERS OF SUNDARBAN |Wild honey collection in Sundarban forest |Forest Department documentary

Deep in the heart of the Sundarbans, a group of brave honey hunters ventured into the dense jungle in search of the golden treasure that lay hidden within. These men were not ordinary beekeepers, but rather, they were the guardians of a centuries-old tradition that was passed down from their forefathers. They were the honey hunters of the Sundarbans. "Honey Hunters of Sundarban" is a beautifully shot and organically crafted documentary that captures the essence of this unique and ancient tradition. It is a testament to the resilience and strength of the human spirit, and it provides a glimpse into a world that is both beautiful and challenging. The film was made possible by the help of the DFO, Milan Mandal, who played a crucial role in making this project a reality. His guidance and support were invaluable, and the film would not have been possible without him. Overall, Honey Hunters of Sundarban is a must-see film for anyone interested in wildlife, culture, and adventure. TO CATCH A CROCODILE

Kankandighi is a village which falls within Raidighi Range in South 24 Parganas. On the morning of October 15, the village was tense. Reason: village resident Anil Das had discovered an 8-foot long estuarine or saltwater crocodile in his pond. The intruder had apparently killed a sheep in the village too. Staff from the South 24 Parganas Division reached the spot as soon as they received information of the discovery, and after a day-long operation, successfully captured the female crocodile at around 4.40 pm. In the video accompanying this post, you will see the patience and effort invested in the operation under highly challenging circumstances, because not only the crocodile was rescued , but also controlling hordes of curious onlookers, whose loud presence was enough to agitate any wild animal. The crocodile was then successfully released into her natural habitat in perfect physical condition following an examination by a Veterinary Officer on October 16. The saltwater crocodile is the world’s largest living reptile, with males growing up to a length of 20 feet, though females rarely exceed a length of 10 feet. A hyper carnivore, it is an extremely skilled predator and hunter, and owing to its tendency to swim long distances at sea, individual saltwater crocodiles appear occasionally in areas far away from their general range. They generally spend the tropical wet season in freshwater swamps and rivers, moving downstream to estuaries in the dry season. They are commonly found in the Sunderbans.
